A University of Ohio professor and some assistants have uncovered some scary results about toys that are targeted for Halloween this year: shocking levels of lead content.
In original reporting by CBS news, Professor Jeffrey Weidenhammer and his staff have uncovered dangerous levels of lead in a toy called “Ugly teeth.” The fake plastic teeth aren’t only ugly, but have about 100 times the permitted level of lead. Weidenhammer has alerted the CPSC with the hopes that they will generate some public recalls before the holiday this week.
Professor Weidenhammer has made an urgent call to action before the holiday on Wednesday so children will not have this dangerous toy to chew on. The professor has tested several other toys for lead, but the “ugly teeth” are of special import because of the danger of ingesting lead particulate matter. Parents should keep an eye out for them and keep them away from their children.
