A crane accident in Colorado Springs last week in an open roadway of the COSMIX construction zone, fortunately not injuring anyone in the process. According to a report on Gazette.com, this was the third such mishap involving a crane in the construction site since April. One of the worksite accidents killed a worker.

“This raises major concerns,” said John Healy, area director for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. “It’s unprecedented for us to have three major crane incidents in the same project.”

The collapse caused a 110-ton girder to drop 20 feet onto the North Nevada Avenue offramp, which was closed to traffic at the time. The crane’s 150-foot boom, however, fell onto an open stretch of the interstate.

OSHA apparently fined SEMA Construction Inc., a COSMIX partner, $14,000 after the April crane collapse that killed Humberto Rodriguez, 30, a worker on the site.

If you or someone you know has been injured in a worksite injury, you may want to contact a personal injury attorney to discuss your rights. For a free case evaluation, complete the form at the right of this page.
