Almost every day I receive a call from someone that lives on the Gulf Coast where I am asked if they are eligible to file a claim with the Deepwater Horizon Claims Center. Do you own a business in Alabama, if you do, you may have a claim. You may be thinking to yourself, wait a second, I live in Huntsville, Alabama, how could I have a claim? The answer is simple, you potentially have a claim if your monthly gross sales receipts meet the criteria for a claim under the BP settlement agreement. Whether your business has a claim is solely dependent on your business' financials and not about how the oil spill may or may not have affected your business.

Another way you are eligible for a BP claim, is If you owned property from April of 2010 until December of 2010 that was abutting the Gulf of Mexico or a waterway close to the Gulf of Mexico. The easiest way to check and see if you are eligible is by clicking on this link and entering your property's address. This map will let you know if your property qualifies for what is called a Coastal Real Property claim:

Finally, the last group of people with BP claims that may not realize it are people that sold their property from April of 2010 through December of 2010. If you sold coastal property during this time period, you potentially have a BP claim worth 12.5% of the sales price of your property.

At the end of the day, if you live on the Gulf Coast you need to check into whether you have a BP claim. Either contact a lawyer or visit a claims facility, but whatever you do, don't let this opportunity pass you by.
